Assuring that measures are being taken to stem the outbreak after deaths and cases of cholera and diarrhoea among fishing trawler workers at jetties in Cutbona, Mobor and Malim, Dr Utkarsh Betodkar has cautioned people to be mindful of personal hygiene even suggesting to follow the do's and don'ts of Covid-19 protocols. Utkarsh who is the State Epidemiologist stressed that cleanliness and washing hands often has to be practiced.
According to Betodkar, cholera is a bacterial infection and the affected workers can spread it if they move around. The bacteria is present and the outbreak can be said to be over when the last case is treated and at least a month elapses with zero cases, he added.
As a measure of abundant caution, Dr Betodkar said all will have to maintain proper hygiene --wash hands regularly, especially after using washrooms. He also advised consumption of only well cooked food.
