The local panchayat recently installed a high mast lamp at the key junction at Bodkavaddo, Calangute giving big relief to commuters traversing through one of the busiest roads in the beach village.
The panchayat in the past has installed five such high mast lamps in other parts of the village and have plans to install four more such high powered poles in other areas.
Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira informed that the high mast lamp at Bodkavaddo has been installed as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity.
“There are people who come forward to provide facilities through the CSR. We will utilise their goodwill to create more such public oriented works in the village,” Sequeira said.
He said in the past two each of such high mast lamps were installed at Gauravaddo and Saunthavaddo and one in Umttavaddo.
“This is the sixth high mast lamp installed at Bodkavaddo. We have plans to install four more such lamps in other areas,” he said.
He further informed that the high mast lamp at Bodkavaddo was the need of the hour as the road was one of the most used roads.
“Besides locals, many tourists use this road as it is a shorter route to travel towards Candolim and beyond instead of entering the main Calangute village,” he said.
Incidentally, the plan to build a traffic island at Bodkavaddo has also eased the congestion at the crucial junction.
“The volume of traffic has increased tremendously along this key road. This junction is also very crucial. We have built a traffic circle to streamline the movement of traffic in the area,” the sarpanch said.
