Calangute MLA Michael Lobo expressed confidence that the relocation of Sunburn, the popular EDM festival, to Dhargalim would not impact the coastal belt's stakeholders negatively.
He emphasised that tourists attending the festival would eventually visit beaches in Anjuna, Vagator, and Calangute, benefiting local businesses.
“Sunburn can take place anywhere, and it will still benefit us. People attending the festival will want to explore nearby beaches, so they will naturally head to Anjuna, Vagator, or Calangute,” Lobo said.
While acknowledging Dhargalim as a potential venue, Lobo pointed out the area's lack of infrastructure for a major event like Sunburn.
“Dhargalim is a good place, but it lacks the necessary infrastructure such as hotels and restaurants. Additionally, there are no beaches nearby, which are a major attraction for festival goers. People attending Sunburn will also want to visit the beaches,” he explained.
Lobo expressed optimism that the coastal belt would continue to draw visitors during and after the music festival, ensuring economic benefits for local tourism stakeholders.
