A human skeleton was found in the forest at Gavane-Bandora on Monday morning.
Ponda police received information about the skeletal remains and a police went to the spot. Blue slippers and a sky-blue T-shirt were found near the skeleton.
Based on the examination of the skeleton, the police have suspected that the person had died about six months ago.
The Fonda police have pressed a forensic team into service to identify the skeleton to decide it it is a male or female, and the possible age.
Information about the skeletal remains has been sent to all police stations in the State and investigations are in progress under the guidance of Inspector Vijaynath Kavlekar.
