Chief Medical Officer Dr Rudresh Kuttikar, who was castigated by the Health Minister for failing in his duty, on Monday clarified that he was just following protocol.
“Some relatives came asking to give an injection of Vitamin B12 to their patient. We denied because such injections are not part of emergency services. We requested them to go to OPD or any other health centre,” he explained.
“I was just following protocol. Ours is a tertiary care unit that handles only serious and critical cases but these days… even minor cases are coming to the emergency department. But as per protocol we cannot entertain those. Emergency ward is not for such cases,” he explained further adding that he was not even given a chance to explain.
According to the Health Minister, his outburst was following a complaint from a family member of a senior citizen, who was refused an injection in the GMC’s casualty ward.
