As monsoon season draws to a close in Goa, the India Metrological Department (IMD) has revealed that the rainfall received by the State measures 41 per cent higher than the average.
From June 1 till September 30, the area weighted rainfall measured in Goa stood at 4,203.7 mm, a whopping 41 per cent higher than the normal long period average of 2,975.6 mm. As a result, IMD has categorised this year’s monsoon to be “excess”.
According to IMD, this is the highest seasonal total for Goa over the last century. Previously, Goa had received 4,097.7 mm of rainfall in the year 1961 which was the highest till the last season.
