The Agassaim panchayat conducted its first ever online Gram Sabha on Friday to mark the launching of People's Plan Campaign for preparation of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) 2021-22.

Sarpanch Emmie Fernandes appealed the people to immediately contact panchayat in case of any problem faced by them.

Former sarpanch and present panch Xavier Gracias explained the problems faced by various stakeholders, especially the youth of the village losing their source of income due to pandemic, and put forth a detail plan as to how the panchayat can reach out to these stakeholders in giving them the financial stability and social support.

Gracias suggested that villagers could take up activities like farming, fishing, dairy farming, floriculture, etc to tide over the pandemic situation.

“The panchayat is willing to provide training to the villagers and also help them avail various government schemes as well as subsidies to those who seek to undertake such ventures,” Gracias explained.

Later in an open forum, several suggestions were made by the people on various subjects which were accepted and the sarpanch assured to incorporate the same while preparing the GPDP.

Panch Maria Alfonso welcomed the members and VDC convenor Shirish Lawande presented the various support activities taken up by the panchayat during Covid pandemic.

The Agassaim panchayat will hold another online Gram Sabha on December 19 wherein the panchayat is expecting participation of a larger audience as some villagers faced difficulties in joining the online gram sabha.

“For this online Gram Sabha, over 40 villagers participated. But many others could not do so as they faced difficulties in joining online. When the next online Gram Sabha is held on December 19, we are going to ensure larger participation,” Gracias added.

Cletus Fernandes of Agassaim helped to conduct the entire proceedings in a smooth manner.

Other panchas namely Dorethy Baretto, Soccorina Gosalves, Sally Gonsalves, Piedade Fernandes and Nacimento D'Silva participated in the event.
