Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals have decided to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi for two days in the port town and to hold the Visarjan in specified time slots.
The Mormugao deputy collector convened a joint meeting with representatives of various Saravajanik Ganesh Mandals, BDO and chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday, to discuss on safety protocols for the fast approaching Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
During the meeting, various issues on the number of days, size of idols and Visarjan patterns were discussed.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Ravindra Bhavan Chairman and founder president of Vasco's oldest Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal Jayant Jadhav said the meeting was attended by representatives of around 25 Sarvajanik Mandals.
"During the meeting, all Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals decided to celebrate the festival for two days in the port town and the Visarjan would be done in specified time slots,” said Jadhav.
“Amid the pandemic, we have decided to scale down the celebrations and even the idols in the pandals will be smaller in size compared to the huge idols which are usually displayed on Sarvajanik.”
"If the guidelines are followed, Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations can be safe for everyone and this is done considering the larger interest of public," said Jadhav.
