Inspection for COTPA violations conducted at Headland Sada

The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad conducted inspections at Headland Sada to check for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA). The Enforcement Squad booked 13 cases for violation of Section 4 & 6(a) and recovered fines of Rs 2,600 from fast food kiosks, bars and grocery stores.
The Squad found that the grocery stores & kiosks that had violated COTPA claimed to be registered with the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration but their registration details were not displayed.
During the inspection, the Squad also found in some establishments that the No-Smoking signage was not properly displayed as required under COTPA. The report of the inspection will be submitted to the South Goa District Collector Jyothi Kumari and Dr Sarah George, Member Secretary District Level Coordination Committee for COTPA, at the next quarterly review meeting.
The Squad which was led by Rosario Carvalho (Mormugao Taluka Jt Mamlatdar-I) and comprised GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins, Circle Inspector Hanumant Mandrekar, MTS Suraj Patil, UHC Sanitary Inspector Dayanand Thakkar and police constable Vishnu C Tambulkar from Mormugao Police Station.
