MARGAO
The Fatorda police is yet to make headway into investigation into the damage caused to ex-GPCC chief Girish Chodankar’s car, but the police has brought a grass cutter for interrogation to find out whether any stone or object had hit the car window glass during grass cutting.
The police has further informed that no FIR has have been registered in the complaint lodged by Chodankar on Friday night.
While the police claimed that investigations are in progress, a senior police officer disclosed that a grass cutter was summoned at the Fatorda police station for interrogation to find out whether any object or stone from the grass cutting activity had hit the glass window. “Right now, we are investigating Chodankar’s complaint. We had called the grass cutter for investigations to find out whether any stone or object from the ground had hit the car during grass cutting”, a senior police officer said.
The ex-GPCC Chief, who is a member of the Congress party’s highest decision making body, Congress Working Committee (CWC) had on Friday night lodged a complaint with the Fatorda police after the window glass of his car was found damaged when the car was parked at the Holy Spirit Church square. Though Chodankar did not name anyone behind the incident, he has pointed out that the damage on his car has come hours after he had called for a ban on the entry of Raja Singh into Goa on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has said the agenda of hate and violence in Goa will be crushed. Sardesai took to the social media to say that vile attempts to divide people on communal lines, and replying with violence when questioned, might work in other states. “This is Goa, organised goondaism will not break Goemkars' centuries-old bonds of amity, harmony, and community”, Sardesai said.
Meanwhile, former Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council and Margao Congress leader Savio Coutinho strongly condemned the attack on Girish Chodankar by damaging his vehicle.
“Lawlessness is the order of the day all over Goa as wrongdoers get protection, instead of victims getting justice; and this is the sole reason for anti-social elements getting the courage to indulge in such activities, Coutinho said.
“Today raising one's voice against the ill's plaguing the state or seeking justice is considered an offense, while indulging in crime is considered an act of valour by the authorities responsible to maintain law and order”, he said, while demanding a thorough investigation and booking the culprits involved in damaging the vehicle of Congress leader.
