Iranian held, drugs, cash worth Rs 12.65 lakh seized in Anjuna

An Iranian has been arrested on charges of possessing drugs worth Rs 12.23 lakh and cash of about Rs 41,300 at Anjuna on Friday night.

According to reports, the Crime Branch received a tip that Hamid Abbaspour Tehrain (41), who resides at Chivar-Anjuna, was dealing with drugs. Accordingly, the police raided the rented room of the foreigner.

During a search, a police team seized dried fruiting tops (buds) suspected to be Hydroponic Weed (Ganja) weighing 258 gms, a black sticky substance suspected to be Charas wrapped in transparent plastic weighing 52.190 grams, purple colour heart-shaped tablets suspected to be MDMA weighing 4.110 gms, and white colour crystal-like substance suspected to be MDMA weighing 2.470 grams.

Besides, cash of Rs 41,300 and one iPhone was also seized from the accused.

The police seized all these items and arrested the suspect after registering a case under the NDPS Act. A separate offence will be registered regarding a violation in the Foreigner’s Act.

Police Inspector Laxi Amonkar is conducting further investigation.
