In a major narcotic seizure, Mandrem Police have arrested a 27-year-old Israeli National in a narcotic raid with drugs worth Rs 8.72 lakh.
Addressing a news conference in Porvorim, North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said the Mandrem police had received a tip regarding one Israeli national coming to sell drugs including narcotic mushrooms at Arambol on Saturday evening.
Accordingly, a raiding team was formed under the supervision of Pernem SDPO DySP Jivba Dalvi and Mandrem Police Inspector Sheriff Jacques. When the Israeli national, identified as Naar Yaakov, reached the site he was apprehended by a police team and during a search, was found in possession of 136 grams of dried mushrooms containing narcotic substance Psylocybin, 132 grams of powder of narcotics substance psylocibin and 140 grams of Ganja. All the drugs are valued at Rs 8,72,000 in the international market.
The accused, who is presently residing at Arambol, had come from Bangalore to Goa recently. An FIR under Sections 20(b)(ii)(A) and 22 (c) of NDPS Act has been registered, said SP Kaushal.
The raiding team was supervised by SP North Akshat Kaushal and SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi and consisted of PSI Pravin Simepurushkar, constables Sarvesh Mandrekar, Saish Pokle, Vijay Gaikwad, Rajesh Shirgaonkar and Babaji Pednekar.
Further investigation is in progress to find out the source of drugs seized by the police. Police have obtained a 7-days police custody of the accused.
