The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor, Rohit Monserrate on Saturday announced that the 'Pay Parking' arrangement in the capital city has been suspended until May 31 due to the chaotic traffic situation amidst the ongoing 'Smart City' works.
“Starting from tomorrow till the 31st of May, there will be no pay parking in Panaji whether it is at Patto or anywhere else where CCP is currently charging. This will be applicable during day and night also” Monserrate said.
In several areas of Panaji, side paths of some of the main intra-city roads have been designated as 'pay parking lots' including the 18th June road, Elvina Britto Road and Cunha Riveira road to D B Marg via Pharmacy College; A B Road commencing from John Paul building to Caritas Complex, Dom Joao de Castro Road commencing from Old Patto Bridge to Old Secretariat and Elvina Britto Road (Church Square).
Other areas designated as 'pay parking lots' include the roads in the periphery of the 'Garcia de Orta' garden and a couple of other roads in the main city square including a part of the Campal Heritage Precinct.
Meanwhile, Monserrate, who is also a member of the board of the Imagine Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) said that the ongoing 'smart city' work was inspected on Friday across the city and plans are afoot to speed it up.
