The Western bypass- Calvaddo bypass junction is a civil engineering and environmental disaster. Freshly laid roads have been dug up umpteen times for laying utility lines, water lines, alignment correction and what not. Further, work is carried out in the night without hazard warning lights or fluorescent paint which have led to numerous accidents. Worse still, a rivulet adjoining the river Sal at the site which was a natural irrigation channel for storm water drainage has been filled up and a retaining wall is being constructed at the periphery to construct a service road. The ongoing work will lead to flooding in the monsoons and further destroy fertile agricultural land which has already been ruined by the Western bypass. The hollow claims by the government about supposed progress and development tom-tomming such projects are leading to the total annihilation of Goa and the common man can do zilch about it.
