Mandrem Police has booked the owner of a resort after the wife of the Italian ambassador to India suffered a head injury due to fireworks set off from a resort at Ashvem.
Incidentally, this is the first ever case registered by the Mandrem police station since it was inaugurated on January 25.
In a complaint filed on Friday night, Shrinivas V Dempo, Honorary Vice Consul of Italy in Goa, stated that the incident had taken place on January 1 when fireworks were launched from the premises of Anahata Resort in Ashvem.
The resort owner is accused of having rashly and negligently allowed the launching of fireworks from the premises of the resort.
Paola Ferri, wife of Vincenzo de Luca, the Ambassador of Italy to India and Nepal, suffered a head injury after she was struck by fireworks, police said.
Acting on the complaint, Mandrem police on Friday night registered its first crime (Cr. No. 01/2024) and booked an offence against the hotel owner under Section 338 IPC (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
Mandrem PSI Kunal Naik is conducting further investigations in the matter.
According to media reports, police will record a statement of the victim and initiate further process. The owner of the resort is yet to be arrested in the matter.
