The Union Ministry for Jal Shakti has granted its approval for the ‘pollution abatement and conservation of Zuari River’ at Curchorem and surrounding areas, at a cost of Rs 81 crore on 60:40 ratio- between the Central and State government, under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP).
The three-year long project aims at reducing the pollution load of the river stretch through implementation of various pollution abatement works, thereby improving their water quality.
In a communication to the Chief Secretary on December 20, the Union Ministry has informed about its administrative and expenditure approval to the project. The central share of the project is around Rs 46.68 cr while of the State is Rs 32.46cr.
The Ministry has said that any cost escalation will have to be taken care by the State government, who has to also monitor the project to ensure its completion within the stipulated time period of three years.
The project includes pollution abatement works like sewage pumping stations, sewerage system, Setting up of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), online monitoring system, river front development works, etc.
