Khaunte to fight assembly polls as Independent

PORVORIM

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has finally announced that he is going to contest the ensuing assembly election as an Independent candidate. With his announcement, all the viral speculations on social media, that he wanted to join BJP or other parties, have come to rest.

While speaking to media persons at Porvorim, MLA Rohan Khaunte stated that a month ago on November 9, 2021, his 17 supporters had joined Congress, and more were supposed to join along with him later.

The aforesaid 17 supporters were assured that a Porvorim Block Committee would be formed within a couple of days. However, Congress did not constitute the Block as yet. It is more than a month now, that his supporters have been requesting the Congress Pradesh President to constitute the block committee so that they can start their work of forming booth committees and start the electioneering work.

However, they were humiliated by the office bearers of Congress. They were told to select the president and another office bearer via an election process, which they refused flatly. Hence, they finally decided to resign from the party.

Before submitting their resignation they had informed and discussed the issue with the MLA. He had therefore dropped the idea of joining the Congress and has decided to contest the ensuing assembly election as an Independent candidate as per their wishes.

Khaunte said many parties had approached him with lucrative offers for joining them, but he did not budge and had decided to join Congress as per the wishes of his supporters.

Now that his supporters had requested him to contest as an independent candidate the MLA said that he did not want to disappoint them.
