Khaunte wants Act modified to include more activities under tourism dept

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said he would revive his demand to have the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act revised to include more tourism activities under the tourism department.

Speaking to media persons near the Nana Nani Park at Porvorim, Khaunte said the tragic incident at Arpora on 7 which claimed 25 lives had affected the tourism industry in the State.

“As far as the tourism department is concerned, bars and  the restaurants, dance bars, night clubs, etc. which are away from the beach do not come under the purview of the tourism department,” said Khaunte.

“I had suggested to the government that the existing Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act needed to be revised to include more tourism activities under the tourism department.”

Khaute said he has instructed the Director of Tourism to keep vigil on all illegal structures and activities along the coastal belt which come under the purview of the tourism department and to take strict action immediately.
