Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Monday said the process to build a new high-level Borim bridge will be taken to a logical conclusion once the land acquisition proceedings are complete by October 20.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a programme in Margao on Monday, the WRD Minister, who represents Shiroda in the Goa Legislative Assembly, said the government will take the bare minimum land from the public to construct the new high-level bridge.
“Land acquisition for the new Borim bridge is in the final stage. The land acquisition process will be complete by October 20. Once the process is complete, the consultant will do the follow-up to take the project to the logical conclusion,” he said.
When the minister's attention was drawn to the objections raised by the farmers of Loutolim to the new bridge passing through the khazans, Shirodkar said, "Any development work has to take shape from the ground. We understand the sentiments of the people. Hence, we will acquire bare minimum land for the proposed bridge,” he said. He further pointed out that the land losers will be paid compensation by the government as per the prevailing rules in force.
When the media further pointed out that the people from Borim, which falls in Shiroda constituency, have also opposed the Borim bridge, Shirodkar shot back, “There is not much opposition for the bridge from Borim. There may be 4-5 persons opposing the bridge from Borim. Even these people may not own any land. They are opposing the project just for the sake of it.”
Meanwhile, commenting on the Prawah set up to resolve the Mhadei tangle, the WRD Minister said the Goa government has placed its stand in the Supreme Corut. Asked whether there’s any plan to convene a meeting of the House Committee on Mhadei, Shirodkar said the meeting will be called as and when it is required.
