Teachers on lecture basis in government high schools have demanded that the State government issue a notification to hike their salary to fulfil the assurance by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and have also demanded regularisation in jobs.
"There are some teachers working in government schools for the last 17 years. However, they get barely Rs 150 per lecture,” said Pratik Surlakar, one of the leaders of the All Goa Government High School Lecture Basis Teachers.
“In 2020, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had assured to give Rs 25,000 as monthly salary and also said those who have worked for five or more years would be regularised. But till date, no order has been issued.”
“We hardly get four lectures per day and we get only Rs 150 per lecture. So, our monthly income is very less and it is difficult for us to sustain our livelihood in these difficult times.”
Surlakar said there are 200-odd teachers teaching students from Std 8 to Std 10 in around 70 government schools.
Another leader Anupama Bhagat said they conduct classes as normal teachers but are paid much less and there is no job security.
“In many government schools, most teachers are only on lecture basis,” added Bhagat.
