Opposition Leader Michael Lobo and South Goa Congress MP Fransico Sardinha have criticised the State government’s move to construct a new Raj Bhavan as a time when the State is suffering from a financial crunch.
“Priority has to be given to regular administrative work rather than on infrastructure development. Infrastructure work needs to start but it should go at a slow pace and concentration should be given on the day-to-day work,” said Lobo, while speaking to reporters.
“The decision to construct a new Raj Bhavan is not correct when the State is under tremendous financial pressure.”
“The government has already allocated a budget for the Raj Bhavan construction and they have decided to start it. But we don't know when the project will be ready as the State is already suffering from financial crunch with mining stopped and during Covid times, tourism and other activities have also stalled,” the opposition leader added.
He claimed the financial condition of the State is such that many women are not getting monthly pension or Griha Aadhar.
“Money for the Laadli Laxmi scheme has not been released since 2019,” he said.
South Goa Congress MP Francisco Sardinha said the decision to build a new Raj Bhavan was unwarranted when the old Raj Bhavan building is in good condition.
IIT study awaited on
Atal Setu potholes
Even as potholes have frequently developed on the Atal Setu, Opposition Leader Michael Lobo has said the company involved in the construction of the Atal Setu would not have put its reputation at stake with poor quality.
“It is the top layer of hotmix which is getting displaced due to various reasons. What is getting affected is the tar which is getting washed away. The IIT Madras has been allotted the task to research these conditions,” said Lobo.
“It is not good to comment or criticise for the sake of criticising before the IIT comes out with its study. Let the IIT come out with its study. We don't have to jump to conclusions before that,” said Lobo.
