Local arrested for assault on tourists in Cunchelim road rage incident

MAPUSA
In a case of alleged road rage, three tourists from Maharashtra were injured and their vehicle damaged after being attacked by a local resident at Cunchelim on Saturday.

Colvale Police identified the accused as Rashid Siddiqui, a resident of the area, who was later arrested in connection with the assault.

According to police, the incident occurred when Siddiqui, reportedly in an inebriated condition, rammed into the vehicle in which the tourists were travelling.

Enraged after the collision, he allegedly began pelting stones at the vehicle, leaving the car damaged and injuring three tourists in the process.

The accused is further reported to have inflicted injuries on himself and attempted to shift blame onto the tourists by alleging that they had assaulted him.

Police rushed to the site and shifted both the injured tourists and the accused to the North Goa District Hospital for medical treatment. Further investigation is underway.
