Locals ask p’yat to stop casino ops in village

MAPUSA

The Candolim gram sabha has adopted a resolution requesting the panchayat to take action against a new onshore casino that has been set up in the village.

Objecting to the casino, the villagers said that some years ago the Candolim gram sabha had adopted a resolution not to allow casinos in the village.

The villagers were informed that the home department issued the licence to operate the casino and the panchayat had no say on it.

Candolim Sarpanch Fermino Fernandes agreed to write to the owner of the casino to stop operating the casino.

The gram sabha has asked the panchayat to cut electricity and water supply to the casino. Incidentally, the panchayat has knocked off all signboards promoting casinos in the village.
