After the villagers caught a vehicle disposing of waste red-handed in the village near the Missing Link, the Loutolim Panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the owner responsible for the violation.
On August 28, at around 10:30 p.m., the Deputy Director of Panchayat, South Goa, encountered a person illegally disposing of dry and wet waste from a Jeep at the missing link on Loutolim Highway. He promptly alerted Secretary Amol Tilve, who coordinated with Sarpanch Sanfrancisco Fernandes to address the situation.
The Sarpanch, accompanied by the Secretary, arrived at the site at 10:40 p.m. and contacted the Police Inspector of Maina-Curtorim police station, Arun Desai, leading to the seizure of the Jeep. The next morning, the Village Panchayat issued a letter to the offender, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar Saw to pay a fine of Rs 25,000.
Thanks to the cooperation of the police, the vehicle was not released by the police until the fine was paid. On September 3, 2024, the accused paid the penalty, and the Village Panchayat issued a receipt before the Sarpanch requested the Police Inspector to release the vehicle.
Secretary Tilve said the incident demonstrates the Village Panchayat's commitment to maintaining a clean environment and upholding regulations. The prompt action and collaboration among officials serve as a deterrent to potential offenders and a testament to the power of collective responsibility, he added.
