The Mamlatdar’s office in Vasco witnessed chaotic moments on Tuesday, as there was a mad rush of people for renewal of schemes and issuance of residence and income certificates.
While the Mamlatdar appealed to the people to maintain social distance and avoid rushing to the office, a municipal councillor demanded an extension in the deadline of schemes.
Mormugao Mamlatdar Saish Naik told reporters that official work at the Mamlatdar’s office had been stopped due to rising Covid cases and the work had resumed a few days ago.
“People need not rush for any work and flaunt social distance norms, because we are systematically clearing all requests in quick time.”
“During the last two weeks, we have seen huge queues and a mad rush here and I want to assure that all works regarding certificates or certified copies will be cleared within two days,” said Naik.
Meanwhile, Municipal councillor Nilesh Navelkar said some women had feared that the Griha Aadhar scheme could be discontinued if not renewed and hence, there was a mad rush of people risking their lives and health.
“This is risky and I would request the government to extend the deadline by 6 months or increase the number of counters to control the rush.”
“There are councillors in all wards and councillors should be allowed to distribute forms and collect the submitted forms, which can then be delivered to the Mamlatdar’s office, which should be accepted as this will reduce the rush and ward wise forms can be submitted systematically,” said Navelkar.
Griha Aadhar, political stunt ahead of elections: Amonkar
VASCO: GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday said the renewal of Griha Aadhar scheme was a political stunt ahead of the upcoming municipal elections and the next assembly elections. “The total economy of Goa has collapsed and the government has no money to pay people enrolled for the schemes, which is pending for around 3 months.”
“The government has done a new stunt and requested people to renew the Griha Aadhar scheme, for which they need residential and income certificate and hence, there is the mad rush.” “With the civic and assembly polls coming up, they want people to come to them. People will have to compulsorily go to MLA for signatures and gazetted officers for the stamp.”
Amonkar said it was cause for concern to see a crowd of around 200-300 people at the Mamlatdar’s office amid the Covid pandemic.
“These are poor people who have no knowledge and they don’t have any income as well and it is not their fault. The government should not fool the people,” said Amonkar.
