Mapusa chairperson blames ‘uncertain rain’ for flooding

MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Priya Mishal refused to take responsibility for the chaos witnessed due to heavy pre-monsoon rains on Tuesday, attributing the flooding to “uncertain rain.” Mishal acknowledged the inundation of roads and shops, calling it an “unfortunate sight.”

She said the municipal council had engaged three contractors for desilting and work was underway at key locations. “Sixty percent of the desilting is complete,” Mishal said, adding that the sudden rain amplified the situation.

She insisted that the process was ongoing and the blame could not be placed on the municipal council.

She also appealed to citizens to refrain from dumping plastic in drains and nullahs, which further contributes to blockages during the rains.
