Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Vice Chairperson Viraj Phadke resigned on Wednesday and is likely to be replaced by councillor Sushant Harmalkar.
Phadke was elected unopposed as vice chairperson on February 15, 2023, after then Vice Chairperson Chandrashekhar Benkar had resigned as part of an agreement between the BJP-backed ruling group to rotate the posts of chairperson and deputy chairperson for a one-year duration.
As part of this agreement, MMC Chairperson Priya Mishal had recently resigned from her post and a new chairperson will be elected on February 23.
