Acting on Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar’s demand for a traffic signal along the Poraskade-Dhargal junction, where a mishap had claimed the life of a 57-year-old man last week, The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) installed a traffic signal at the site.
Arlekar has also instructed authorities to depute 24-hour traffic police at the junction and discussed the issue of the dangerous turn with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who had given a green signal for necessary action.
Vyankatesh Naik, convenor of Pernem Taluka Development Committee, has appreciated the prompt action of NHAI officials and also thanked local MLA Pravin Arlekar for taking immediate action in the matter.
Stating that an overbridge between Poraskade and Naibag is the only solution, Naik said the Poraskade-Amere-Naibag panchayat should put up this proposal before the gram sabha and send it to the government.
“The National Highway 66 construction project is in progress between Patradevi and Dhargal. The delay in construction was due to multiple reasons, which included delay in acquiring land which hindered the construction of service roads. The government should have acquired land for side roads, service roads along with land acquisition for the national highway. As this was not done earlier, and no land was acquired to construct service roads, the NHAI contractors and engineers have had to face the wrath of villagers,” claimed Naik.
