MARGAO
Sewerage infrastructure received a boost in Margao on Monday, promising to improve sanitation and connectivity in the commercial capital.

In a bid to enhance the sewerage infrastructure, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat launched two crucial projects employing cutting-edge Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology, set to modernise the sewerage network while minimising disruptions to roads and existing utilities.

One of the key projects focuses on the development of the sewerage network at Monti Hill, covering essential healthcare institutions such as TB Hospital, Ayush Hospital, and Aster Hospital. The project, undertaken by Tejman Infrastructures at a cost of Rs. 4.79 crores, involves the laying of a 200 mm diameter pipeline, the construction of manholes, and the provision of road crossings for house sewer connections. With a total network length of 1238 metres, this project is expected to bring significant improvements to the area's sanitation and overall public health.

Simultaneously, another major project is underway to expand the sewerage network across the Military Camp and Monti Hill areas. With a total network length of 2009 metres, this initiative is being executed by NST Eng Projects LLP at an estimated cost of Rs. 8.48 crores.

Similar to the Monti Hill project, it involves pipeline installation, manhole construction, and road crossings for house connections. This expansion will address long-standing sanitation concerns and contribute to the modernisation of essential infrastructure, ensuring a cleaner and healthier living environment for residents.

In his address, the Margao MLA reiterated his commitment to the welfare and development of Margao and its surrounding areas. “By integrating advanced HDD technology, these projects will significantly enhance sewage management while preserving road conditions and reducing inconvenience to the public,” he said.

Kamat further emphasised that these efforts align with his broader vision of providing efficient and sustainable urban infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the city.

As work progresses, authorities are ensuring that these projects are executed in a timely and efficient manner, bringing much-needed improvements to the region’s sewerage network. The completion of these projects will not only improve sanitation but also reduce environmental hazards, fostering a sustainable future for the people of Margao.
