MARGAO
On 22/10/2025, at around 14:00 hrs, a call was received on the Margao Town Police Station landline informing that a person was creating nuisance at Rosary College, Navelim. Accordingly, a police team consisting of Head Constable No. 5709 Minguel Vaz and Police Constable No. 9536 Ajay Zangli proceeded to the spot to verify the information and take necessary action.
*On reaching the location, the person was identified as Edberg Pereira, son of Rocky Pereira, aged 37 years, resident of Coldem, Navelim, Salcete “ Goa. It was further learnt that Edberg Pereira runs a snack shop near Rosary College, Navelim, where the incident had occurred. At that time, he was accompanied by a female companion.
*While the police personnel were attempting to speak to him, Edberg Pereira suddenly became violent. Despite repeated warnings and requests by the police to calm him down, he continued to behave in an aggressive and disorderly manner. Consequently, HC Minguel Vaz sought reinforcement from Margao Town Police Station, wherein Robot-31 was diverted to the spot, and Edberg Pereira was secured and brought to Margao Town Police Station.
*The said Edberg Pereira was escorted to the Police Station. While he was present inside the SHO/Reporting Room, he began yelling, shouting, and abusing. The Duty Officer, PSI Nilesh Shirvoikar, confronted Edberg Pereira and tried to calm him down. In the process, Edberg Pereira lost his balance, fell on the skirting of the floor, and sustained head injury. After the fall, immediate medical attention was provided and he was shifted to SGDH.
*Upon inspection of the CCTV footage and based on preliminary inquiry, PSI Nilesh Shirvoikar has been placed under 'suspension' , and Complaint No. 356/2025 under Sections 115(2) and 198 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against him on Oct 22, 2025 at Margao Town Police Station.
