Meet to discuss illegal roadside vendors' issue postponed again

MARGAO

Mystery shrouds the postponement of the meeting convened by the district authorities for the second time to discuss the issue  of roadside vendors doing business in the commercial capital.

Margao BJP leader Sharmad Raiturkar, BJP leader from Davorlim Saish Rayadyax and others had knocked the doors of the South Goa district Collector to call for a meeting to discuss the illegal roadside vending in the commercial capital.

The meeting was asked for by the BJP leader following an assault on Saish and the trustee of the Margao crematorium Jaiwant by a group of persons from Pajifond after the duo had questioned them for disposing of the coconut waste inside the crematorium property.

Incidentally, the district authorities had postponed first the meeting scheduled at the fag end of December before  rescheduling the meeting on January 3.   However, Saish Rajadayx pointed out that the district authorities have again postponed the meeting scheduled on Wednesday in the South Goa district Collectorate.

Last time round, Sharmad had told the media that the action planned by the citizens against road side vending has been postponed in view of the postponement of the meeting called by the district authorities. He had then pointed out that citizens will chalk out the future course of action in the event the district authorities show no interest in cracking a whip against the road side vending and encroachments.

In fact, Sharmad had hinted that road side vending is illegal and contempt of the 1997 High Court order, raising speculations whether the BJP leader and concerned citizens will knock the doors of the High Court with the district authorities postponing the planned meeting for the second time.
