A joint meeting was held on Friday to discuss preparations for the 125th Damodar Bhajani Saptah festival, starting on August 10. The meeting, chaired by Mormugao Deputy Collector Bhagwant Karmali, included key officials such as Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borkar, and representatives from various departments.
DySP Salim Shaikh, speaking to the media after the meeting, mentioned that a significant turnout is expected this year, as the festival starts on a weekend, which is likely to draw larger crowds. “We are anticipating a large number of devotees since Saptah starts on a weekend and continues for a week. We have made extensive arrangements, with around 400 police personnel on duty for any law and order situation. Additionally, 50 traffic police officers will manage traffic flow. CCTV cameras will be installed to monitor activities and prevent any incidents. Heavy vehicles will be diverted to the new flyover, and roads like the one behind the police station and FL Gomes Road will remain open,” said Shaikh.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar highlighted the importance of effective traffic management to reduce congestion in Vasco city.
