Mhadei: Goa’s petition will not make any impact in SC, say Karnataka officials

BELAGAVI
A senior Karnataka WRD official and Karnataka’s advocate in Supreme Court have snubbed Goa’s contempt petition, stating it would not make any impact in Supreme Court and is only a delaying tactic used by Goa.

A top official from the Water Resources Department of Karnataka said since the Centre has already issued a Gazette notification for the implementation of the Mhadei Water Diversion Project, the contempt petition by Goa would not be admitted in Supreme Court.

“Besides, the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) has also awarded Karnataka its share of water,” the official said.

Endorsing the same opinion, Karnataka’s advocate in Supreme Court Mohan Katarki said Goa’s contempt petition would not make any impact, but added he was yet to receive details of Goa’s contempt petition and charges made in it.

Meanwhile, activists and WRD authorities in Karnataka have termed Goa government’s petition as a ‘delaying tactic’ adopted and that, Goa was trying to put obstacles at a time when the Centre already cleared this project.
