PORVORIM
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has objected to the State government’s recent notification empowering Block Development Officers (BDO) to decide on disqualification petitions against panch members.
“There is every possibility that these powers could be misused, especially since interference of BDOs in panchayat matters has been evident in recent times. A discussion on such notification should be taken in the Assembly otherwise democracy will be in peril,” said Khaunte, while speaking to reporters.
“I am examining the notification and if required, will take legal course to quash it. Such a notification can be used as an ammunition by the government to target panch members who are against them.”
The Porvorim MLA also sarcastically stated that people of Goa would request Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Goa on a monthly basis, considering the current pace and haste in hotmixing of roads in areas where Amit Shah is travelling in the State.
“We would also request Shah to tour the entire State, so that roads are hotmixed to host his visit,” Khaunte said.
