MARGAO
Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar on Wednesday said the failure by the LDC to deposit the revenue from the Purumentachem fest fair to the failure of the administration in the civic body.
In fact, Shirodkar has told the Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar to immediately recover the revenue from the LDC, saying mere suspension of the staffer will not bring the revenue back to the Civic body.
The Civic Chief said he would write a letter to the Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister and Chief Secretary to order a probe into the incident.
“I am not blaming anyone, but the incident only goes to show there is lack of administration at the Margao Civic body. This is the first time in the MMC history that revenue amounting to lakhs of funds have been diverted into a private account of a staff. Is this the way a Chief Officer will run the administration. This shows there is no administration”, he said.
The Chairperson told the media that he had put up a note to the Chief Officer on Monday to give a report on the incident within 48 hours, saying the CO has not submitted any report.
Insisting on the recovery of the revenue, the CP said he would not leave anyone, saying he would take legal recourse in the matter. “The revenue from the stalls at the fair is normally collected by the market inspectors. This time, the LDC took the charge to collect the revenue. I want to know from the CO who had given the LDC the authority to collect the revenue”, he said.
Damu said he would place the matter before the Council meeting since it is a serious matter affecting the revenue of the Council.
