MARGAO
When the 5TPD bio-methanation plant was commissioned on November 4, 2021, hopes were raised that the plant would produce around 450 units of power and generate bio-fertilizer waste on a daily basis.
In fact, the company had pointed out that the Margao civic body could earn revenue to the tune of Rs 10,000 per day through the sale of power to the power grid, besides bio-fertilizer.
While revenue to the tune of Rs three lakh per month was expected to come into the MMC coffers through the sale of power, the civic body is spending Rs 1.5 lakh on the plant as operational and maintenance cost as per the MoU inked with the firm.
Sadly, the MMC has not earned any revenue from the plant till date for want of connecting the plant to the power grid, as a result of which the balance 20 kilowatt of power has remained unutilized.
It’s now two years since the plant was commissioned with much fanfare, but the civic body had never shown any urgency to tap the revenue by connecting the plant to the power department.
