Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) has expressed concerns about the domestic LPG consumers of Sancoale Gas Agency, facing immense hardship due to the non-provision of cylinder refills for the last 10 days and has written to the Director Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (DCSCA) on this matter.GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins in a press release stated that Sancoale Gas Agency, a Bharatgas Distributor having its office in Zuarinagar and godown at Verna serves consumers from several villages of Mormugao taluka like Velsao, Cansaulim and Sancoale among others.
"After the police raid and sealing of the godown of this LPG distributor for tampering of cylinders and removal of LPG, the Bharat Gas office in Goa had taken a decision to suspend the operations of Sancoale Gas Agency. This has resulted in the disruption of the supply of refills of domestic cylinders. While the police case investigation carries on the distributorship will remain suspended. The LPG consumers have not been informed of what has happened and how service will be provided to them in the interim period," said Martins.
"GOACAN has requested that the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs seeks an explanation from the office of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Goa with a view to resolving the hardship of the LPG consumers. It is important that BPCL puts in place a plan for distribution of LPG cylinder refills to the consumers of M/s Sancoale Gas Agency and the same has to be informed to the affected consumers," said Martins.
"It is also important that the Taluka Civil Supplies Inspector, Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka, the respective Village Panchayats, SDPO Vasco and the office of the District Magistrate South Goa be informed accordingly of the steps taken to provide service to the LPG consumers. The Copies of the GOACAN letter have been sent to the South Goa Collector & District Magistrate, Goa Police SP South, Controller Legal Metrology and the Mamlatdar Mormugao Taluka," added Martins.
