Porvorim Police have arrested a man from Nerul on charges of attempting to commit murder, after he was accused of abusing and assaulting a 31-year-old man with a knife.
Shakuntala Patra of Tintawado“Nerul had lodged a complaint with Porvorim Police station stating that on October 1 at around 6.45 pm, the accused, Dipak Kumar Padhi, abused and assaulted Anil Mahadev Gawas (31) with a knife near the Nerul church and attempted to commit murder.
Police mentioned that Gawas, a resident of Usap“Dodamarg, has been admitted to Goa Medical College at Bambolim and is undergoing treatment.
Investigations revealed that the accused, Dipak Kumar Padhi, is a native of West Bengal and presently staying at Nerul on a rental basis. The accused is working at a casino along the Calangute-Candolim belt. The incident had taken place over money, which was allegedly due by the accused to the victim, said police.
Acting on the complaint, Porvorim Police registered an offence under Sections 504 and 307 of IPC against the accused. Police were able to trace and arrest the accused at Nerul on October 1. Police produced him before the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class on Monday and he has been remanded to seven days in custody.
Police Sub Inspector Sarvesh Bhandari is investigating the case under the supervision of Police Inspector Rahul Parab and the guidance of Dy Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Karpe.
