This is with reference to the report, "Civil society members take pledge to protect social fabric of state - The Goan Everyday October 3, 2023." It was great to see members of the civil society coming together in Margao on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti vowing to protect the age old tradition of communal amity and brotherhood amongst Goans. In fact, protecting the old tradition of communal amity and brotherhood should be the objective for all our countrymen all across the country. What is encouraging at this meet in Margao is that, the people have taken a pledge to protect the social fabric and hand over the same to the next generation. And, a more important in this news report is what a former student leader said, "we have lighted the torch on Gandhi Jayanti and we have to march forward hand in hand to stop the divisive forces from dividing the people of Goa on communal lines." I don't think there's anything more to say. It is the absolute need of the hour and what better day to begin than on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the man who is a universal symbol of peace and tolerance. It's a wake up call for all Indians!
