Meeting also convened with internet providers: MLA

VASCO

Vasco city will soon get a new water pipeline as well as underground electricity and internet cables ahead of the beautification of Swatantra Path road.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar was speaking to reporters after launching work on gutters and a drainage in the Driver Hill, Vasco, in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson and ward councillor Girish Borker and other residents.

"We have already launched the work on the underground cabling in Vasco and we had planned to complete the first phase before Diwali,” said Salkar.

“While works are going on at quick pace, we realised that there are a lot of TV and internet cables all across the poles and will continue to remain there and give the area an ugly look.”

“We convened a meeting of all internet providers to work out a solution but only a few participated. We have now scheduled another meeting with the South Goa collector where operators from across Goa will attend. We will request them to get all their cables underground while the works on underground power cabling is being taken up in the area.”

Commenting on the water supply issues, Salkar said approvals have been granted to change all water pipelines which have not been changed for the last 50 years.

“These new pipelines will be laid and we want all these works to be carried out simultaneously so that all cables and water pipelines can go underground and we can then take the beautification of the city area," said Salkar.

"We will get the new carbonised water pipelines in December and as of now we will get all the power and internet cables laid underground after which we will get the new water pipelines laid and finally take up the city beautification project by January. All these projects will be completed ahead of the next monsoons.”

“We are also getting the MLA funds of Rs 2.5 crore and we have also put up around 120 more development works across all 25 wards of the MMC jurisdiction under the MLA funds, which will also happen simultaneously in the next six months," said Salkar.

Commenting on the drainage and gutter works at the estimated cost of Rs 9 lakh in Driver Hill area of Vasco, Salkar said the work is being undertaken by PWD.

“We will also have pavers across the area and these works will be completed before Diwali," said Salkar.
