The Crime Branch (CB) arrested nine persons for allegedly operating a fake international call center in Majorda and seized electronic gadgets and cash total amount of which is estimated around Rs 15 lakh.
Superintendent of Police (CB) Nidhin Valsan informed that the accused impersonated bank officials and duped several American nationals of a whopping amount by luring them with offers the latter could not refuse.
“The accused made the American nationals pay penalties for low credit scores and convinced them into obtaining huge loans. All this was done through electronic mode of payment,” he said.
The fake callers, in their 20s and 30s, hail from different parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Assam. In the raid that was conducted at a Holiday Home in Majorda, the CB team also seized nine laptops with headphones, three routers, two modems, and nine mobile phones, along with all accessories cables and Rs 65,000 cash, all of which are valued at Rs 15 lakh approx.
