Nine-day ED custody for Anjuna man in land fraud probe

The Panaji Special Court has granted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) nine days of custody of Shivshankar Anant Mayekar, a resident of Anjuna, in connection with an alleged land fraud case.
Mayekar is accused of allegedly cheating and forging documents to unlawfully acquire ownership rights of land originally belonging to the Communidade of Anjuna. The ED is investigating the laundering of proceeds arising from these alleged illegal land grabs.
Earlier this month, the ED conducted raids at 12 locations across Goa as part of its ongoing probe. The searches included the offices and residences of Mayekar “ a panch member -- as well as premises of Yashwant Sawant, Sudesh Parsekar and Ashre Builders. Officials reportedly seized several documents during the operation.
