Noted Mapusa-based paediatrician Dr Anthony Nazareth (73) passed away suddenly on Wednesday, police informed.
Dr Nazareth was rushed to the North Goa District Hospital (Asilo), Mapusa, at around 3.30 pm, where he was declared brought dead.
Police officials informed that Dr Nazareth was rushed to the district hospital by his close family members after he suddenly collapsed at his residence in the afternoon.
Dr Nazareth, who was a well-known paediatrician, ran a flourishing private clinic at Sirsat building in Mapusa.
He was known to be the first paediatrician to start a private practice in Mapusa.
He was elected as president of the State Indian Medical Association (IMA) in 2009 and was also closely associated with doctors in Bardez.
“He was very good, humble and a polite person. He has contributed a lot to the IMA and the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP). He organised a lot of camps for children,” said Dr Dhanesh Volvoikar, a Porvorim-based paediatrician.
“He was always a very good senior and very well respected in the medical fraternity,” recalled Dr Volvoikar who was closely associated with him.
