After the Bhoma locals, the Corlim locals too have voiced their opposition for the highway expansion project through the village and demanded a bypass road to save houses from demolition.
The locals voiced their opposition after they gathered at a meeting in Corlim, on Sunday, and demanded that a bypass be built.
“We have been demanding bypass since 2010 and this is not the first time that we are coming out in opposition for the highway expansion project,” a local informed while adding that they have already filed their objections with the authorities concerned.
A local Richard Pereira informed that the bypass could easily go through the fields from Kundaim and connect to the Kadamba road thereby saving all the houses of Corlim as well as Bhoma.
“So we are demanding that the government explore that option instead of going through the highway expansion through the village,” Pereira added.
He further pointed out to the dangers faced by the locals to their life and property when the highway gets widened.
"In the wee hours of Saturday a lorry truck rammed into a shed and four workers had a lucky escape. Such accidents will increase multiple times after the highway expansion and put our lives and properties at risk," Pereira informed while highlighting the importance of a bypass road.
The locals also informed that they have already discussed the issue at the recent gram sabha and voiced their opposition to the project.
