A Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) team led by Chief Officer Jayant Tari and other officials carried out a site inspection of the Vasco fish market and also of the newly erected temporary shed premises.

Tari also interacted with several fish vendors during his visit to the Vasco fish market and later requested some vendors and fruits and vegetables vendors to occupy the temporary structure erected for them.

While a few vendors accompanied Tari and other MMC officials to the newly erected sites, the vendors requested the MMC yet again to close the fish wholesalers after which they would fully co-operate with the authorities

Tari interacted with the vendors at the new temporary site and also showed them the arrangement made while asking the vendors for any suggestion to improve it for their convenience when they shift to the new premises.

Later after the inspection and a succesful interaction with the vendors, MMC also began distribution of vendor cards .

MMC community organiser Nandita  Haldankar later in the afternoon gave out all the vendor cards to the vendors

Speaking to the media after inspection,  a fish vendor Jamardhan Tari said that the only request to MMC from the vendors was to close the fish wholesalers in the city.

"We had spoken to MMC and they had assured us to stop all fish wholesalers and only after that they would shift us to the new temporary shed. We cannot come to this new shed till our primary demands are met and we will continue to operate from the existing market till then. Once the MMC clears the wholesalers and informs us, we will shift here.  Our vendor cards are ready and we will get them and after that we plan to shift here," Tari added.

"Most of the issues have been resolved and we are also ok with the arrangements of the new temporary shed. We have been informed that the Vasco fish market would be demolished once we shift here and a new market will be ready within 18 months. Our only demands are an assurance on closure of fish wholesalers and an assurance that we will be shifted back to the new fish market once it is ready," said Tari.
