Oppn needs to meet CM frequently to highlight issues: Lobo

PANAJI

Defending his frequent visits to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Opposition Leader Michael Lobo on Wednesday said the opposition needs to frequently meet the chief minister to highlight issues affecting the public.

"Some people say meeting the CM is not good. But right now, they are the ruling party and it is our duty to bring to their notice if any particular thing requires their attention,” said Lobo, while speaking to media persons after meeting the chief minister at his residence in Panaji.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lobo had met the chief minister at his residence with a demand to postpone panchayat elections. About a fortnight ago, Lobo had met Sawant with some issues, including the reinstatement of terminated anganwadi workers.

"We may be addressing news conferences, but simultaneously we are also meeting the CM. His is positive and has understood what we want to say.”

Meanwhile, Lobo opposed the government’s move to extend the contract of Drishti services for maintenance of the Aguada fort.

"Forts should not be given to a private party. Our Tiracol fort has already gone to a private hotel. We will study the terms and conditions regarding the Aguada fort issue and will raise the issue in the assembly,” said Lobo.
