Vasco rape accused sent to two-day police custody

Manjit Singh (21) who was arrested by Vasco police in connection with a rape of a minor girl in Vasco has been sent to two days in police custody.

Sources at Vasco police station said Singh had been produced before the JMFC and was remanded to police custody.

A police complaint in connection with the rape was lodged at the Vasco police station on May 10, but the accused was absconding and a 6,000-km chase across four states finally led Vasco police to nab Singh at Kozhikode in Kerala.

Singh was brought back to the Vasco police station on Tuesday and later arrested under Sections 376 (iii) IPC, Section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act and Sections 4 & 8 of POCSO Act.

Meanwhile, LPSI Varshada Naik Desai is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak.
