Domestic tourism is beaming in the country and there are positive reports of hotels being sold out at most of the destinations. Domestic Tourism has played a major role in the survival of the Tourism sector in these tough times. While the FTAs saw a major decline the domestic market kept booming. The major tourist destinations like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh, North East, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Goa have done well, stated Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Tourism.
Naik was speaking after inaugurating SATTE (South Asia’s Travel & Tourism Exchange) 2022 on Wednesday at Greater Noida, Delhi. Dr M Mathiventhan, Minister for Tourism, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Angela Herliani Tanesoedibjo, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesia, G K Rao, Director General Tourism, Govt of India and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
SATTE is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, National and International Tourism Boards, Indian and International travel and trade associations and other stakeholders of the industry.
"SATTE (South Asia’s Travel & Tourism Exchange) offers a comprehensive platform to domestic and international buyers and professionals from across the travel, tourism and hospitality industry along with National and State Tourism Boards (NTOs and STOs). For over two decades SATTE is recognised as one of the leading travel and tourism exhibitions in the country which conduct business, share knowledge and exchange ideas in order to arrive at solution-driven innovations to accelerate the pace of the growth of the industry," Naik said.
"The Ministry of Tourism under the leadership of the Prime Minister has worked tirelessly to support the tourism sector. The Ministry has been in a continuous dialogue with the representatives of the Tourism & Hospitality industry and stakeholders to discuss solutions and ways forward to revive the tourism economy by reviving demand, especially through the promotion of Domestic Tourism," Naik said.
"Inbound tourism is of paramount importance for the overall growth and development of travel, tourism, and hospitality in any country. The Government of India launched the ‘Incredible India’ campaign to enable Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) to spearhead tourism growth in the country," Naik added.
"Post COVID-19, tourism destinations, the world over, are competing to gain a greater share of the modern traveller’s budget. This will further intensify with time as countries around the globe have been resuming international flight operations. Parallelly, tourism departments in various countries have been adopting aggressive marketing and promotional strategies in top source markets to attract a great number of tourists," Naik stated.
"I am confident that this Mart would serve as a platform to further discuss the new tourism products of the region and provide an opportunity for the tourism stakeholders from this region to interact with their counterparts from other regions of the country," Naik concluded.
