After an impressive meeting at the Lohia Maidan on Opinion Poll Day, the scene now shifts to the Goa Legislative Assembly as Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai and Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco have pledged to take the controversial linear projects on the floor of the House during the Assembly session beginning from January 25.
Saying that the Private Members Resolutions tabled by him as well as by Fatorda MLA and Curtorim MLA on the linear projects will come up for discussions in the ensuing Assembly session, the Opposition leader said the Opposition will not leave the government off the hook and will raise the people’s voice and fears on the contentious issues of coal, track-doubling and the power transmission project.
The three MLAs gave their commitment to take up the controversial projects on the floor of the House after Fr Bolmax Pereira made a fervent plea to the Opposition MLAs to raise the coal issue in the ensuing Assembly session.
“We will all raise the coal issue on the floor of the House since we have moved private members resolution on the subject. We will insist on a discussion on the three linear projects,” Kamat thundered at the Lohia Maidan on Saturday.
Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai said his private members resolution on the linear projects will come up for discussion in the ensuing session. “The government cannot thrust the projects down the throats of the people. This government must scrap the controversial projects,” he asserted.
In his address, the Opposition Leader vowed to support the people both within the Assembly and outside, saying a government that does not listen to the voice of the people has no moral right to rule the State. “What people want should take place. The government cannot dump the projects on the people. Let us all unite and teach this government a lesson,” he asserted.
In his address, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai said only an united Opposition can send the BJP government packing home. Saying that he might have made a mistake by not withdrawing support to the government after the death of late Manohar Parrikar, Sardesai vowed never to support the BJP government in the future.
In their address, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar and Curtorim MLA, Reginaldo Lourenco also sounded similar sentiments and called for unity amongst the political parties to jointly fight the ruling BJP.
