Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes on Saturday slammed those opposing projects in the State, adding that the government does not harp on past achievements but carries on with its mission to bring about improvement in the lives of people.
Fernandes was speaking after unfurling the national flag at the Liberation Day celebrations in Canacona, in the presence of Dy Collector Satish Prabhu, Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal, Police Inspector Pravin Gawas, Canacona Municipal Council administrator Johnson Fernandes and others.
While paying homage to those who had made sacrifices and had suffered atrocities at the hands of Portuguese rulers, Fernandes lauded the people of Canacona for their battle against the Covid pandemic. He also commended the authorities, NGOs and individuals for being in the forefront as Covid warriors in serving society during the lockdown.
“Opposing each and everything has become a fashion nowadays. Ask not what your country has done for you, but ask what have you done for your country,” Fernandes said. “Despite the adversities and difficulties due to the pandemic and lockdown, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has not compromised on development in the State.”
“Our government does not harp on past achievements, but carries on with its mission to seek a higher growth of the economy and bring about improvement in the lives of people,” said Fernandes.
The deputy speaker also listed out some of the development works either completed or underway in Canacona taluka. Assuring to remain the voice of the people, Fernandes said people had suffered economically due to the lockdown forced by the Covid pandemic. “But we will overcome this together; we will definitely win this war against coronavirus,” he added.
On the occasion, prizes and certificates were presented to winners and participants of online competitions conducted by Canacona Mamlatdar on Covid awareness. Freedom fighter Pushpa Kankonkar was among those present at the event.
